Exiting Your Comfort Zone and Stepping into a New Level!

Updated: Oct 14, 2021

Last month my family and I were invited to my cousins wedding in California. First time taking a flight in a very long time to spend time with my parents, in-laws and relatives with a jam packed ten day schedule!

I stayed excited, yet calm knowing I have ten months of rewiring under my belt and all the tools I need. After all I spent quite a bit of time visualizing all the fun times, and all the delicious restaurants on my list. I did it all. Everything on my list, with absolute pleasure.

Here comes the..."stepping out of the comfort zone part". Part of my healing journey that was left "was" rewiring MCS.

WINS:

I slept in sheets drenched with fabric softener.

I was around many very strong and gorgeous perfumes, lotions and potions. Wedding season anyone?

I danced, I partied, I cried happy tears and stayed up until 2 am some nights!

I ate allll the things, and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Doesn't everything taste amazing when you're having fun?

Often while rewiring we are in controlled environments with slight triggers. In this case, I counted on my new neural pathways and stayed as elevated as possible and welcomed distractions.

Some things you can do to regulate your ANS and stay in elevated emotional states:

  • Set an intention

  • Do a guided meditation or mindfulness practice

  • Doodle or color

  • Go for a walk in nature

  • Gratitude practice and journal wins

  • Belly breathing or guided breath work

  • Focus on one thing at a time

  • Laughter yoga

Staying in elevated emotional states when away is quite easy, especially when on vacation. There is no time to mull or dwell as the next event is scheduled and off to the next. Sometimes all that is needed is simply a "No big deal" attitude.

I found myself challenged (part of the process) and also desensitized in an amazing way! Something switched while I was away. I needed to leave my comfort zone and in the thick of many stimuli over multiple days, "Limby" realized we are "GOOD". All is well, and there is no threat.

"As you move outside of your comfort zone,

what was once the unknown and frightening

becomes your new normal".

Robin S. Sharma

In fact, honestly more than good... EPIC as I can do anything, anytime, anywhere became a reality for me. I needed to totally get of out of my comfort zone to have such a huge win. I also found myself while shopping... perusing at the Walnut Creek Nordstrom smelling the latest scents from Byredo and Maison Francis Kurkdjian. Heavenly! Perfumery is an art if you wish to look it that way.

While packing for the trip, I did prepare some things for my self care tool kit. I highly suggest a 'kit' like this to be packed (in advance) as first priority. This could include your supplements, favorite snacks, personal items and anything that makes you feel comfortable, soothed and satisfied. Makes sense now why many travel with their personal pillows or a fluffy blankey!

Having gone on several road trips prior, my personal go to's are my heart math sensor, color pencils, a few relaxing coloring pages I print ahead of time, daily wins journal and night-time affirmations journal with me.

As a person who had NO kind of self love routine other than meditating few times a week...I love my routine and daily rituals as they keep me present, accountable and also in gratitude. This sort of routine gives me freedom to be creative and away from distractions along with self accountability to check in and self soothe.

This is where neuro-plasticity comes in. Daily routine with small incremental gains lead to new neural pathways and a new set point. This includes checking in with yourself and being aware of all the challenges and offsetting them with all the wins because well the brain will fall into the negativity bias. In fact, going back to routine one of my favorite quotes right now is, "Routine, in an intelligent man, is a sign of ambition".

Routine has to do with mastery which requires disciplined consistency and some kind of ambition. Ambition- Something we desire that we are trying to accomplish or achieve. Can you even have many wins without all the perceived challenges? Welcome to LIFE! :)

Sometimes these so called challenges or hurdles get us to up level BIG TIME and for that we must say YES! Yes to uncertainty, YES to new experiences, and YES to life. We wont know which grand obstacle we may be overcoming unless we take the leap and trust that everything is always working for our highest and best! Often this takes rewiring and changing our habits and inner-standing discomfort may be the admission to some epic memories.

Thank you for reading!
